Hello,
I'm Vanessa Brown, welcome to my E-Portfolio
My mission is to successfully provide client centerd care to every individual seated in my chair, regardless of thier personal background.
My Personal Journey
As a senior Dental Hygiene student at Niagara College, I have taken the time to look back on my first few days and weeks as a junior student. As I started in term one, my oral health literacy was low. I was unaware of things like the link between oral health and one’s overall health, and how quickly the state of the oral cavity can change, either for better or for worse. I was blown away by the amount of new knowledge and skills I was about to learn. As it turns out Dental Hygienist don’t just clean your teeth!
I am currently now in term four out of six and have had the opportunity to work in live clinic’s as soon as term three. Since term three I have improved on my organizational skills, as well as my time management. I have learned alot from my personal experiences with my client’s in clinic and have on those experiences in order to apply, and adhere to the CDHO Standards of practice. Although my journey is not complete, I feel I have gained a wealth of knowledge and look forward to adding and improving all aspects of my clinical practice in order to be the best and most efficient clinician I can be.
Why Dental hygiene?
Ever since I was a child I knew I wanted to incorporate my love of people and the community into my chosen career path. My mother and grandmother had stressed the importance of oral health when I was young , and would ensure I was regularly attending dental/dental hygiene appointments. While attending my dental appointments , I realized how interested I was in the dental environment. I loved the smells, sounds, flavors, free toothbrushes and last but not least that really fun dental chair I got to sit in.
