Dental Radiograhpy

Radiology was one of my favorite subjects to learn about, even though I struggled with the practical aspect of the course and found the theory challenging. My challenges arose within the different radiography techniques that are used for periapical images. When is one to be used over the other? What different tooth anatomy is required for proper diagnostics of the different techniques? Therefor I decided to revisit....

This study session greatly helpedme better understand the paralleling technique and the bisecting technique used in dental radiology.Because they are both used to expose PA radiographs, I feel I was criss-crossing information, but now I have it straight.Now that I have a better understanding of the Paralleling techniques vs the bisecting technique, I feel more confident in choosing between the two. The bisecting technique is only used when the paralleling technique isn’tpossiblein order to obtaina periapical radiograph. I also feel that I have reintroduced the important structures to be seen on a diagnostically useful PA image. Lastly, I learned that to efficiently expose radiographs a proper sequence is needed to minimize the time the client is the chair. Utilizing exposure sequences for anterior and posterior teeth in the bisecting and paralleling techniques is very important. I look forward to putting the sequencing into practice to improve my time management skills
